[TIPS] What do you think of this?

I know that there is a concern for online safety. But this, in my opinion, is simply stupid. And I don't use the word lightly.

Read this post from Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach: http://21stcenturylearning.typepad.com/blog/2008/03/internet-safety.html

Make sure you check out the full article that she points to: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=526710&in_page_id=1770

This is.. SPOOKY! I just don't get it. Why bother? It's just... beyond words.

Jim -- this is political correctness or privacy gone mad British style. And the school was told that they were wrong by the Information Commissioner.

It not right at all, but lets look at it from another angle (for sake of argument)! In this day and age schools seem to be expected to be everything to every child including protector. When something bad happens (for example: pedophiles + children + internet) the school is expected to answer to why we didn't do more to teach the kids about pedophiles, even if it didn't happen at the school. Yes, schools should be a part of helping educate children and their parents but when parents don't care or even bother showing up to learn more on how to protect their own children what does that say? Maybe if more parents where involved and did more themselves to learn how to protect and teach their children on dangers of the internet schools could focus more on what schools should be teaching the kids on a daily basis and not worrying if allowing a childs picture in the paper or internet will bring about a lawsuit or even worse harm to a child. I agree it was complete overkill, but unfortunatly that almost seems to be the norm these days.
